Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland – Tribute To Ray Brown
In the words of Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Brown “played the strongest, most fluid and imaginative bass lines in modern jazz.” Ray’s 15 years in what can easily be called the quintessential trio of all time with Oscar Peterson and guitarist Herb Ellis, are legend.
Mentored by Ray Brown (as well as Art Blakey), pianist Benny Green possesses the history of jazz at his fingertips. In his words, he has “something to share today because I got to play with the hardest swinging bassist and drummer in the history of Jazz. Reunited with drummer Jeff Hamilton – who rounded out Benny’s trio years with Brown – Benny pays tribute to Ray with bassist John Clayton.
